Lead by Example

As a CEO and leader, your actions are being observed by your employees. This is not because they distrust you or want to pry into your personal life. Instead, they are simply trying to ensure that your actions align with your words and that you lead by example.

Gaining the trust and confidence of your employees is important, and leading by example is a great way to do it. However, it’s not enough to just set an example; you must also consistently act in line with it.

Here are 11 ways to lead by example and show your team that they can trust you.

It’s important to be considerate

When things don’t go as planned, it’s crucial to be understanding and empathetic instead of criticizing. Offering support and encouragement can make a big difference.

Take time to make people feel special

Everyone wants to feel valued and appreciated. It’s important to take the time to genuinely acknowledge and commend your employees for their efforts in helping your organization grow.

Listen to people’s emotions as well as words

Remember that 60 to 90 percent of our communication is nonverbal. Learn to read your employees’ body language as well as their emotions.

View people’s needs and wants as valid

Rather than assuming that your team can function perfectly fine without the things they ask for, acknowledge their needs and desires as valid and make every effort to address them.

Choose your battles wisely

Don’t waste your time and energy engaging in fights that either have no consequence, or that will leave you drained.

Respect people’s differences

Each one of us is unique. Take your employees’ differences into account when you make decisions that affect them.

Avoid being defensive–and placing people on the defensive

Let’s look for ways to utilize it to enhance our work.

Remember to give people the benefit of the doubt. It’s safe to assume that all employees want to do a good job and are honest individuals.

Give people the benefit of the doubt

Employees may encounter personal problems that could affect their performance at work. It is crucial to address any issues quickly and provide a productive work environment.

Resolve interpersonal problems as quickly as possible

It is important to address any problems and find solutions in a timely manner. Additionally, always remember to treat others with the same respect and kindness that you would want to receive.

Treat people the way you would like to be treated

You know how you would like to be treated by others. Now do the same for your employees.

Never take people for granted–never

Remember to value your people as your most important asset. Always show them attention and consideration.
